Fernbank Field Trip

On Tuesday, April 12, we are taking a field trip to the Fernbank Museum to see the Mythic Creatures exhibit. Should be great fun! Here's the permission slip in case yours went missing.

READ!!

Our homework, in 6th and 7th Grade, is to READ in a quiet, dedicated space for 30 minutes (at least 15 pages) each and every night. Students should record the number of pages they read on their Reading Calendar.

**6th Grade**
Today we talked about the Cultural Iceberg some more. It was very interesting to see the different decisions students made and hear about their conversations at home last night. Keep talking!
Then, we got organized for a bit by clearing out items from our last unit.
Finally, we started talking about another part of speech: Pronouns. A pronouns is a word that replaces a noun in a sentence.
For example, this is a crazy sentence that needs some pronouns:
Brian went to Brian's brother's class. When Brian was in Brian's brother's class Brian gave him a Wolf Bone. Brian's brother was happy to receive the Wolf Bone.
Enter the Pronouns - the Noun Replacers:
Brian went to his brother's class. When he got to his brother's class, he gave him a Wolf Bone. His brother was happy to receive it.
Much better!

For zae tonight, work on the sheet Possessive Pronouns.
For example:
1) Annie Oakley is famous for the shooting ability of Annie Oakley.
NO!
The answer should read:
Annie Oakley is famous for her shooting ability.

Want some extra pronouns work? Play this game.

**7th Grade**
Today we talked about how to choose a book. Many of us found the next book we are interested in reading. All of us should by Monday.
Then, we dove head first into African geography. We started looking at countries and physical features. Tomorrow we will look at the bottom part about labeling climate zones.

Zae: Finish labeling physical features & countries for tomorrow. We will do the coloring together.
Many of you are re-taking the sentence type quiz at lunch tomorrow. I suggest you write 10 complex and 10 compound sentence tonight to practice. Look over your assessment from last week to remind yourself what you need to work on.
Lastly, you need to bring an independent reading book to class by next Monday. Try to find one!
