Fernbank Field Trip

On Tuesday, April 12, we are taking a field trip to the Fernbank Museum to see the Mythic Creatures exhibit. Should be great fun! Here's the permission slip in case yours went missing.

READ!!

Our homework, in 6th and 7th Grade, is to READ in a quiet, dedicated space for 30 minutes (at least 15 pages) each and every night. Students should record the number of pages they read on their Reading Calendar.

**6th Grade**
Today we continued to look at What the World Eats and Material World. We also read parts of the picture book If the World Were a Village. These interesting bits of research led us to a fascinating conversation about global inequality. Ask your students about it at home - especially the per capita income map.
Then, we read aloud Chapter 10 of Frindle. Is the word frindle a fad? We'll find out! Are our words a fad? Who knows?!?!

**7th Grade**
Today we:
  • wrote thank you letters to Teresa for coming to speak to us yesterday. If you need to rewrite your final draft, do so tonight and turn it in tomorrow.
  • looked at some informational text about salt, the Tuareg, and life in the desert.
  • listened to this song by a Tuareg band, Tinariwen
We did not have time to work on our poetry read alouds, but I PROMISE we will tomorrow.

ZAE: Read 30 minutes EVERY night and record it in your reading log. On Friday, we're going to write about it. Be prepared to tell me what you're reading about! Finish letter to Ms. Teresa. ALSO: if you did not finish your paraphrase today, finish it tonight, tomorrow at tutorial, or tomorrow at lunch with me.
