Fernbank Field Trip

On Tuesday, April 12, we are taking a field trip to the Fernbank Museum to see the Mythic Creatures exhibit. Should be great fun! Here's the permission slip in case yours went missing.

How have individuals in history RESISTED?

Today we had a very interesting roundtable discussion. We talked about the various roles that people played during the Holocaust and why they chose to act that way. We decided that fear, power, and prejudice were important motivating factors for Nazis, collaborators, and bystanders. Then, we listed people (in literature and history) who chose to stand up. We discussed why these individuals had chosen to do that and what types of resistance were possible. People resisted by escaping, dying, fighting, thinking, sabotaging, hoping and in many other ways. What a great discussion!
Next, we learned that we will have more news reports coming soon. These news reports will include a research component because we are about to start learning research skills. We looked at the updated Research Reporter Sheet. We filled in a sample with an article about President Obama winning the Nobel Prize. As we were reading, I showed students areas where I myself had questions when I first read it. We then examined two pieces of research. First, we looked at a World Book article about the Nobel Prize. Then we looked at a list of past Nobel Peace Prize Laureates. We filled in our research notes as we read.
For homework, students need to complete two more parts of the worksheet we started in class, if not already done. Think about Reflect and the final question connecting the research to the article.
Students should also be reading their independent books according to their calendar.
Pronoun quiz has been delayed. We'll review pronouns tomorrow and take the quiz on MONDAY.
