Fernbank Field Trip

On Tuesday, April 12, we are taking a field trip to the Fernbank Museum to see the Mythic Creatures exhibit. Should be great fun! Here's the permission slip in case yours went missing.

READ!!

Our homework, in 6th and 7th Grade, is to READ in a quiet, dedicated space for 30 minutes (at least 15 pages) each and every night. Students should record the number of pages they read on their Reading Calendar.

Eusebio's Dream

Today we continued work on our activist project. Students are busy researching. They have many resources and should be able to continue this process over the weekend if necessary. Research should be completed by Tuesday when we return to class.
We also watched an interesting video called Eusebio's Dream. Eusebio is an indigenous man from Peru who is struggling for ownership of his land. We used this video to help us discuss social problems and the possible solutions. Hopefully this reasoning will help students work on their own problems and solutions.
Finally, we heard from Skyler who bravely volunteered to quickly put together a current events report on the situation in Haiti so that we could all understand what's happening. He did some great research and gave a FANTASTIC presentation. Thanks for your hard work! Skyler also designed two deep thinking questions for us to discuss:

1) Can you invent a way to help Haiti?
2) Can you design a way to design houses so they don't fall down in the future?

Very fascinating discussion! Students got very involved in this conversation. We will have to table it til Tuesday because we were running out of time, but it seems like our class will try to come up with a plan to do something to help Haiti. Any of you deep thinkers have ideas??
