Fernbank Field Trip

On Tuesday, April 12, we are taking a field trip to the Fernbank Museum to see the Mythic Creatures exhibit. Should be great fun! Here's the permission slip in case yours went missing.

READ!!

Our homework, in 6th and 7th Grade, is to READ in a quiet, dedicated space for 30 minutes (at least 15 pages) each and every night. Students should record the number of pages they read on their Reading Calendar.

European Culture

Today we continued our study of the 5 Themes of Social Studies by looking at the culture of Europe. Students are grouped into different regions of Europe - Northern, Southern, Eastern and Western. They spent the day investigating books on various countries in these regions and taking notes on a graphic organizer. It was very interesting to hear them share out at the end of the day - they certainly learned a lot of interesting things about European food, art, architecture, holidays, customs, etc!
After we investigated, we revisited our cultural iceberg from yesterday. Students reflected that some of the items were perhaps more complex than they originally assumed.
For homework, students are asked to use their handout about the cultural iceberg to explain this concept to someone else in their life. They will be asked to write about this person's reactions tomorrow.
