Happy birthday to Ms Daja Lamar, who is turning 12 tomorrow. Our advisory took a trip to Morelli's to celebrate her big day. She's smiling right there in the middle! What a lovely fall day to take a walk!!*6th Grade**
We started today by debriefing our discussion from yesterday. We didn't talk about the content, we talked about the form of the discussion. What was good? What wasn't so great? What will be the characteristics of GREAT discussions for the rest of the year? This gave us a wonderful list.
Then, we read aloud a chapter from Frindle. After that, we modeled what a good discussion about books look like. Four students and I sat in a "fishbowl" while others watched us discuss Frindle so far. Then, the audience gave us feedback on how we'd done. HOPEFULLY this will help us have a better discussion about books when we start book clubs next Monday!
We also watched a movie on Nationalism, Conflict, and Immigration. This should help us get ready to talk about the Holocaust next week.
For the last 10 minutes today we enjoy a whole class reward. 6C has had an awesome week in Humanities. So, they got the pleasure of enjoying 10 minutes of fun, unstructured time outside. Thanks for a great week AND enjoy your weekend!

Today we reviewed the figurative language that we found in our books last night. Then, we wrote our first letter essays where students communicate with me about the books they are reading. These should have been finished in class; if not, they should be completed for homework. Looking forward to reading them!
ZAE: Read 30 minutes, as always. Finish letter essay if it was not yet completed.
Then, we watched a movie about Tuareg life in the desert from National Geographic.
